Most stage moves aren’t a clean walk or a full sprint — they’re a shuffle, a crossover, a step-and-go, then a hard run to the next position. The Accelerator forces both halves of that sequence into the same rep. You shoot, you take 1-2 lateral steps, you shoot again, then you transition into a sprint, decelerate, and put one more round on a third target downrange. It’s how you teach your feet to shift gears without the sights ever falling apart.

Set three cones in a straight line. Cone 1 to Cone 2 is 3 yd (3 m) — the shuffle/crossover window. Cone 2 to Cone 3 is 7 yd (7 m) — the sprint lane. Three targets sit 5 yd (5 m) downrange, one in front of each cone, with the same 3-yard and 7-yard spacing as the cones. Start at Cone 1 from the holster or low ready. Fire one round on T1, shuffle (or crossover) 1-2 steps to Cone 2, fire one round on T2, drive into a sprint, decelerate at Cone 3, square up downrange and fire one round on T3. Run it both directions and alternate the footwork variant — shuffle on one rep, crossover on the next.

Score it on three things: hits, footwork, and the deceleration. All three rounds in the A zone is the bar. The shuffle and crossover should be quick and powerful with a tight base — high knee drive on the crossover is the tell that the inside leg is actually loading and not just stepping past. The deceleration is where most reps fall apart; if you arrive at Cone 3 still drifting forward and try to shoot through the stop, the sight picture won’t be there. Plant the feet, then break the shot. Once the rep is clean, push for a par time, run it from concealment, or stretch the cone spacing toward the 10 yd (10 m) end of the range to lengthen the sprint.

Setup

3 cones in a straight line.
Cone 1 to Cone 2: 3 yd (3 m) — shuffle/crossover window.
Cone 2 to Cone 3: 7 yd (7 m) — sprint lane.
3 targets (IPSC or USPSA) parallel to the cone line, 5 yd (5 m) downrange.
T1 in front of Cone 1, T2 in front of Cone 2, T3 in front of Cone 3.
T1 to T2 spacing: 3 yd (3 m). T2 to T3 spacing: 7 yd (7 m).
Start position: at Cone 1, from the holster or low ready, facing T1.
Run the drill in both directions and alternate the footwork variant on each rep — shuffle, then crossover.

Scoring

3 rounds per rep — one per target.
All three rounds in the A zone / scoring zone = clean pass.
Any round outside the scoring zone or any miss = failed rep.
Footwork counts: a wide base, dropped knee, or stop-step on the shuffle is a fail even with hits.
Deceleration counts: shooting T3 while still drifting forward is a fail.
Scoring: Hit Factor (HF) = points ÷ time. USPSA target zones: A = 5, C = 3, D = 1, Miss = −10. Higher HF = better performance.

Tips

Push and pull between the inside and outside leg on the shuffle, and drive a high knee on the crossover step. The feet load the move — the upper body just goes along for the ride.

Progression

Add a par time once the footwork is clean — 3.5-4 seconds is a strong starting bar.
Stretch the cone spacing toward 10 yd (10 m) on the sprint leg.
Run it from concealment instead of an open holster.
Flip the direction every other rep — shuffle right, then shuffle left.
Swap pistol for rifle and re-run at the same distances.
Add a no-shoot beside one of the targets to force visual discipline at speed.
