Stage 6 is the reload stage. From low ready at 7 yards, you fire 4 rounds, perform an emergency (slide-lock) reload, and fire 4 more rounds — all within 8 seconds. This is the only stage in the FBI Qualification Test that requires a reload.
Eight seconds sounds like plenty, but a fumbled reload under stress can eat 3–4 seconds on its own. The key is a reliable, practiced reload that you can execute without looking at the gun. Your spare magazine position and reload mechanics need to be automatic
Range Setup
Setup
Stand facing the FBI-QIT-99 target at 7 yards. Pistol loaded with exactly 4 rounds (to force slide lock). Spare magazine with 4 rounds on your belt or in a pocket. Two-handed low ready position. Shot timer set.
Scoring
Any hit inside the scored area of the FBI-QIT-99 counts as 1 point (max 8). Part of the overall 50-round qualification — passing requires 40/50 (80%).
Tips
Bring the gun to your workspace — high and close to your face — during the reload. Your eyes should find the magwell while the spare magazine is already on its way up. Do not look for the magazine on your belt.
Progression
Isolate the reload: practice going from slide lock to first shot on target. A solid benchmark is reload-to-shot in under 2.5 seconds. Then integrate with the full 8-round string. Goal: 8/8 under 7 seconds.
