Stage 2 introduces the body-to-head transition with the carbine. From low ready, fire 2 rounds into the lower (body) scoring zone, then transition up to the upper (head) zone for 1 round — all within 4 seconds. Repeat the string twice for 6 rounds total at 7 yards.
The head zone on an IPSC target is roughly 4×6 inches at the A-zone — a significant precision step up from the body. With a carbine the mechanical offset between optic and bore matters at close range. If you zero at 50 or 100 yards, your point of impact at 7 yards can be 1-2 inches low, which is enough to push a head shot from A into C zone.
50-round, 13-stage course (48 rifle, 2 pistol). USPSA/IPSC target. A/B = 5 pts, C = 4, D = 3. Max 250 pts, passing at 90% (225 pts). Safety selector mandatory.
Equipment Required
Stand facing a USPSA/IPSC target at 7 yards. Carbine loaded, on safe, at low ready. Shot timer set to 4-second par.
IPSC scoring: A/B = 5, C = 4, D = 3. Max per string (3 rounds): 15 pts. Stage total (2 strings): 30 pts.
Shift gears between body and head. The body shots can be fast and confident, but the head shot requires a deliberate pause to confirm the reticle is centered in the head box. Do not chase it with speed.
Know your mechanical offset. At 7 yards with a 50/200 zero your point of impact is 1-2 inches low. For the head zone, aim at the top edge of the A-zone or hold slightly high. Goal: 30/30.
