Stage 3 introduces shooting on the move. Starting at low ready at 7 yards, you advance toward the target and fire 2 rounds while moving, all within 4 seconds. The string is repeated three times for 6 rounds total, finishing at approximately 3 yards.
Shooting a carbine while moving forward requires a different technique than static shooting. The upper body must be isolated from the lower — your legs absorb the movement while your shoulders and arms maintain the firing platform. The natural tendency is to bounce the muzzle with each step. A smooth, heel-to-toe walk keeps the optic stable enough for center-mass hits.
50-round, 13-stage course (48 rifle, 2 pistol). USPSA/IPSC target. A/B = 5, C = 4, D = 3. Max 250 pts, passing at 90% (225 pts). Safety selector mandatory.
Equipment Required
Stand facing a USPSA/IPSC target at 7 yards. Carbine loaded, on safe, at low ready. Shot timer set to 4-second par. Clear lane for forward movement to 3 yards.
IPSC scoring: A/B = 5, C = 4, D = 3. Max per string: 10 pts. Stage total (3 strings): 30 pts.
Use a heel-to-toe walk, knees slightly bent. Break each shot between steps when both feet are on the ground — this is when your platform is most stable.
Start slow — walk forward at half speed and fire 2 rounds. Once you can keep both in the A-zone while moving, increase your pace. The drill rewards smooth movement, not fast movement.
