Stage 4 raises the precision standard while moving. Same advance from 7 to 3 yards, same 4-second par, but now you fire only 1 round — and it must go into the head zone. Three strings, 3 rounds total.
This is one of the hardest combinations in any qualification: precision on a small target while your entire body is in motion. The head zone A-box is roughly 4 inches wide. With a rifle’s mechanical offset at close range and the muzzle bounce from movement, the margin for error is thin. The key is to fire the shot at the moment of maximum stability during your stride.
Stand facing a USPSA/IPSC target at 7 yards. Carbine loaded, on safe, at low ready. Shot timer set to 4-second par. Clear lane for forward movement to 3 yards.
IPSC scoring: A/B = 5, C = 4, D = 3. Head zone only. Max per string: 5 pts. Stage total (3 strings): 15 pts.
You have 4 seconds for a single shot — use 3 of them to move into a stable firing position and 1 second to break the shot. Do not fire until the reticle is settled on the head box.
Practice static head shots first, then add slow movement. Only increase pace once you can hit the head A-zone every time while walking. One clean head shot while moving is worth more than three body shots.
