Source: Dynamic Shooting Drill
The Slingshot Glide is a two-phase dynamic drill that forces you to switch between explosive forward movement and controlled lateral shooting in a single rep. You sprint to a cone, brake hard, break one shot on the first target, then immediately walk laterally while engaging the second target with four rounds. The drill builds the exact throttle control — visual and physical — you need when moving from an open position to cover during a stage or a defensive scenario.
Set two IPSC targets 5-10 yd (5-10 m) apart. Place two cones parallel to the targets, 5-10 yd (5-10 m) apart and 10 yd (10 m) downrange. Place a third cone in line with one of the forward cones, 5 yd (5 m) uprange — that’s the start position. Begin in low ready. On the signal, sprint to the forward cone. Drop the hips, chop the feet to decelerate, and fire one round on T1. Immediately begin a lateral walk toward the opposite cone and put four rounds on T2 while moving. Keep the knees bent and hips slightly lower through the walk so the dot stays steady.
Score the rep on two things: the deceleration shot on T1 and the walking hits on T2. If T1 catches a miss because you fired before your feet planted, the transition needs work. If T2 rounds scatter because you bounced through the walk, slow down and lock in the half-ready stance. Run it in both directions — left start and right start — for balanced footwork.
2 IPSC targets, 5-10 yd (5-10 m) apart.
3 cones.
Cone 1 and Cone 2: set parallel to the targets, 5-10 yd (5-10 m) apart, 10 yd (10 m) downrange from the target line.
Cone 3 (start): in line with Cone 1 or Cone 2, 5 yd (5 m) uprange.
Pistol loaded, in low ready at Cone 3.
Run the drill from both sides — start under the left cone, then under the right cone.
1 round on T1 (after the sprint and deceleration) + 4 rounds on T2 (during the lateral walk) = 5 rounds per rep.
All rounds in the scoring zone = clean pass.
Any round outside the scoring zone or any miss = failed rep.
T1 round must be fired after the feet settle — shooting through the stop is a fail.
Scoring: Hit Factor (HF) = points ÷ time. USPSA target zones: A = 5, C = 3, D = 1, Miss = −10. Higher HF = better performance.
Drop the hips and chop the feet to decelerate after the sprint — plant your feet before breaking the shot on T1, then keep the knees bent and hips low during the lateral walk.
Tighten the standard to A-zone only on both targets.
Add a par time once all hits land in the scoring zone consistently.
Increase the target and cone spacing toward the 10 yd (10 m) end of the range.
Start from the holster or concealment instead of low ready.
Add a no-shoot beside T2 to force visual discipline during the lateral engagement.
Increase T2 round count to 6 for a longer lateral walk.
Swap to rifle at the same distances.
