You start behind a cone, walk forward while engaging the first target with three rounds, stick, then sprint laterally to a second cone and put one round on the second target after you stop. The drill forces you to manage two completely different visual speeds in a single rep: a slow, controlled sight picture during the walk, and a fast reset after the sprint.
Set two IPSC targets 5-10 yd (5-10 m) apart. Place two cones parallel to the targets, 5-10 yd (5-10 m) apart and 10 yd (10 m) downrange. Place a third cone in line with one of the forward cones, 5 yd (5 m) uprange — that’s the start position. Begin in low ready at the start cone. On the signal, present and walk forward toward the forward cone while firing three rounds on T1. Keep the knees bent and hips slightly lower throughout the walk so the dot stays steady. When you reach the forward cone, stick and drive into a lateral sprint toward the opposite cone. Decelerate by dropping the hips and chopping the feet, face back downrange, and fire one round on T2.
Score the rep on two things: the walking engagement on T1 and the deceleration shot on T2. If the T1 group scatters because you bounced through the walk, slow the pace and lock in the half-ready stance. If T2 catches a miss because you fired before your feet planted, focus on being sooner — not faster — into the stop. Run it in both directions for balanced footwork.
2 IPSC targets, 5-10 yd (5-10 m) apart.
3 cones.
Cone 1 and Cone 2: set parallel to the targets, 5-10 yd (5-10 m) apart, 10 yd (10 m) downrange from the target line.
Cone 3 (start): in line with Cone 1 or Cone 2, 5 yd (5 m) uprange.
Pistol loaded, in low ready at Cone 3.
Run the drill from both sides — start under the left cone, then under the right cone.
3 rounds on T1 (during the forward walk) + 1 round on T2 (after the lateral sprint and deceleration) = 4 rounds per rep.
All rounds in the scoring zone = clean pass.
Any round outside the scoring zone or any miss = failed rep.
Walk hits must be fired while moving — stopping to shoot is a fail.
T2 round must be fired after the feet settle — shooting through the stop is a fail.
Scoring: Hit Factor (HF) = points ÷ time. USPSA target zones: A = 5, C = 3, D = 1, Miss = −10. Higher HF = better performance.
Keep the knees bent and hips slightly lower during the walk to maintain a steady dot on T1, then drop the hips and chop the feet to decelerate after the sprint — plant your feet before breaking the shot on T2.
Tighten the standard to A-zone only on both targets.
Add a par time once all hits land in the scoring zone consistently.
Increase the target and cone spacing toward the 10 yd (10 m) end of the range.
Start from the holster or concealment instead of low ready.
Add a no-shoot beside T1 to force visual discipline during the walking engagement.
Increase T1 round count to 5 for a longer walk engagement.
Swap to rifle at the same distances.
