10 Meter Air Rifle Target

15 downloads

Nine bulls at 10 meters, one pellet each. This is the smallest scoring geometry in printable shooting: the ten-ring is half a millimeter across, which is a ninth of the pellet you are shooting at it. Everything about the sheet follows from that number.

Ring diameters, in millimeters and MOA

Measured in the PDF: 45.5 mm across the 1-ring, then 5 mm off the diameter for every ring inward — 40.5, 35.5, 30.5, 25.5, 20.5, 15.5, 10.5, 5.5 — down to a 0.5 mm ten. Each scoring band is 2.5 mm wide. The black aiming area is 30.5 mm, so it starts at the 4-ring and everything from 5 out to 10 is a white line inside it.

At 10 m one MOA is 2.909 mm, which makes the outer ring 15.6 MOA, the black 10.5 MOA, the 9-ring 1.89 MOA and the ten-ring 0.17 MOA. Those are the reference dimensions of the 10 m air rifle discipline, which is what makes a score on this sheet comparable with a score on any other. It is our own sheet drawn to those dimensions — not an approved competition target, and no substitute for one at a sanctioned match.

What a ten actually asks for

0.17 MOA sounds impossible, and it would be if the pellet had to fit inside the ring. It does not. A shot scores the higher ring if the hole touches the line, so with a 4.5 mm pellet against a 0.5 mm ring, a ten is any shot whose center lands within 2.5 mm of the middle. That is a 5 mm circle — 1.72 MOA at 10 m, and the honest number to train against. A nine allows 5.0 mm of center error, a 10 mm circle, 3.44 MOA; an eight allows 7.5 mm, 5.16 MOA.

Score whole rings when you are gauging holes by hand. The decimals in published results — 10.9, 10.4 — come from electronic targets that measure where the center of the hole actually is, and cannot be read off paper.

Print at 100% — the black is the proof

Set the printer to 100% or Actual Size, turn Fit to Page off, then put a ruler across one black disc: it must read 30.5 mm, and the outer ring 45.5 mm. The 1-inch bar in the footer is the faster check — exactly 25.4 mm in the file. Scale error behaves in a way worth knowing about here, because the bands are only 2.5 mm wide. It barely touches the middle and wrecks the edge: printing at 95% moves the ten boundary by 0.0125 mm, which is nothing, but pulls the 1-ring in by 1.14 mm — 45% of a scoring band. So a badly scaled sheet does not cost you tens, it quietly deletes the outer rings, and the shots it mis-scores are the ones you most want an honest number for. If your printer is the uncertainty, the calibration test sheet settles it in one page, and printing targets to scale covers the settings that cause it.

A4 and US Letter

Both files carry all nine bulls at true scale, with identical geometry. The artwork is 194 mm wide, which is the printable width A4 and US Letter share, so neither format needs anything shrunk or moved — and the 10 m disciplines are shot mostly where A4 is the paper in the tray, which is why the A4 file is the one drawn first here rather than an afterthought.

Nine bulls, one pellet each

One shot per bull is not a rule imposed on you, it is arithmetic: a 4.5 mm pellet has a 2.25 mm radius and the ten-ring line sits at 0.25 mm, so a centered shot takes the ten out completely and leaves just 0.5 mm of paper inside the nine. A second shot on the same bull has nothing left to be scored against. The strip under the artwork takes the nine scores and a total, which makes the sheet the record of the session rather than just the receiver of it.

For hold and trigger work without the scoring rings, the half-inch dot sheet gives 54 aiming points at a size the front sight can still bracket. For a pistol at the same distance, the 10 meter air pistol face is the companion sheet — one bull instead of nine, because its 11.5 mm ten-ring survives a full string. Air guns are also the one thing that makes a living room a range: the at-home dry fire guide is written for the same 10 meter space.

FAQ

What size is a 10 meter air rifle target?

45.5 mm across the outer ring, with a 30.5 mm black aiming area and a 0.5 mm ten-ring. Rings step 5 mm on the diameter, so each scoring band is 2.5 mm wide. This sheet carries nine of them at true size.

How many pellets per bull?

One. The pellet is 4.5 mm across and the ten-ring line sits at a 0.25 mm radius, so a centered shot removes the ten outright and leaves only 0.5 mm of paper inside the nine. There is nothing left for a second shot to be scored against. Nine bulls means a nine-shot session.

How tight does a ten have to be?

A shot counts as a ten if the hole touches the 0.5 mm ring, so the center has to land within 2.5 mm of the middle - a 5 mm circle, about 1.7 MOA at 10 m. A nine allows 5.0 mm, roughly 3.4 MOA.

How do I print it to the right size?

100% or Actual Size with fit-to-page off, on A4 or US Letter. Check with a ruler: one black disc must measure 30.5 mm and the outer ring 45.5 mm. The 1-inch bar in the footer is the faster check.

Is this air rifle target free?

Yes - free printable PDF in both A4 and US Letter, at true scale in both. Print as many as you need.
