Same diamond, same target, no rifle — just you and your pistol. The Razor’s Edge strips the weapon transition out of the Diamond Sprint & Transition and replaces it with a speed reload on the move. You draw from the holster, sprint the four-barrel diamond clockwise with alternating body and head engagements, then loop back to the start while swapping magazines at full speed.
Set the target 10 yd (9 m) from the front barrel. Space the four barrels in a diamond with 10 yd (9 m) between each adjacent pair. Load Mag 1 with 12 rounds and Mag 2 with 6 rounds. Start at Barrel 1 (nearest the target), pistol holstered. At the beep, draw and fire 5 rounds body, sprint clockwise to Barrel 2 for 1 head, Barrel 3 for 5 body, Barrel 4 for 1 head — that empties Mag 1. Sprint back to Barrel 1, reload on the move, and fire 5 body plus 1 head with Mag 2. Total: 18 rounds. Benchmark hit factor is 6.00 HF, scored A-zone or head only.
The reload window between Barrel 4 and Barrel 1 is the diagnostic. If your reload adds more than a second to the sprint, isolate that segment — run Barrel 4 to Barrel 1 as a standalone rep until the magazine swap happens without conscious thought. Track barrel-by-barrel hit factors to find your weak angles. Most shooters bleed time at Barrels 2 and 4 where the diagonal approach creates the sharpest target angle.
1 target (IPSC, USPSA, or paper silhouette).
4 barrels arranged in a diamond shape, 10 yd (9 m) apart from one another.
Target is set 10 yd (9 m) from the front barrel (Barrel 1).
Pistol with 2 magazines: Mag 1 loaded with 12 rounds, Mag 2 loaded with 6 rounds.
Start position: standing at Barrel 1, pistol holstered, facing the target.
18 rounds total per rep (12 from Mag 1 + 6 from Mag 2).
Body shots scored A-zone only.
Head shots scored as hit or miss — no partial credit.
Benchmark: Pistol hit factor 6.00 HF.
Score each barrel position separately to identify weak angles.
Misses or shots outside A-zone count as failures for that position.
Scoring: Hit Factor (HF) = points ÷ time. USPSA target zones: A = 5, C = 3, D = 1, Miss = −10. Higher HF = better performance.
Focus on your drive steps and deceleration into each barrel — the time you save sprinting is lost if you overshoot the position and have to reset your stance.
Add a par time once all hits are clean.
Run without the reload — single 18-round magazine — to isolate the movement pattern.
Run Barrel 4 to Barrel 1 as a standalone drill to isolate the reload on the move.
Increase barrel spacing to 15 yd (14 m) for longer sprints.
Require all head shots — no body rounds.
Add a second target at Barrel 3 position to force target transitions.
