Stage 4 is the support hand stage. From a low ready position, you fire 2 rounds using only your support (non-dominant) hand within 4 seconds. The string is repeated twice for 4 rounds total at 5 yards.
Support hand shooting at qualification standards is one of the most perishable skills. Without regular practice, grip strength and trigger control with the weak hand deteriorate quickly. The 4-second par is relatively generous, but placing both rounds in the A-zone one-handed at 5 yards requires real proficiency.
Range Setup
Setup
Stand facing a USPSA/IPSC target at 5 yards. Pistol loaded and held in a one-handed low ready with the support (non-dominant) hand only. Shot timer set to 4-second par.
Scoring
IPSC scoring: A/B = 5 pts, C = 4, D = 3. Max per string: 10 pts. Stage total (2 strings): 20 pts.
Tips
Cant the pistol slightly inward (10-15°) to align the sights with your support-side eye. Grip pressure is everything — squeeze hard and keep squeezing. Do not try to go fast; let the time come to you.
Progression
Practice support hand dry fire daily — grip squeezes, trigger presses, and presentations. The most common issue is the trigger finger lacking the strength and coordination for a clean press. Goal: 20/20 points.
